Researching Slavery: Uncovering Complicated Colonial Narratives

Researching Slavery: Uncovering Complicated Colonial Narratives In-Person

How widespread was slavery in the north? Did it exist in Connecticut? In South Windsor? For more than a century, historians have made little mention about enslavement in the written records and oral histories of Connecticut’s first settlement of Windsor and its daughter towns of East Windsor and South Windsor. Join Carolyn Venne, Executive Director of The Watershed History Collective, for this first program of a two-part series exploring the challenges of researching the history of enslaved persons and people of color during the Colonial and Early American Republic eras. Don't miss the supporting exhibit on display in the lower level of the library.
