Tolkien and the Great War In-Person
National Tolkien Reading Day is observed annually on March 25th. This day is dedicated to celebrating the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and encourages fans to read and appreciate his writings.
“To be caught in youth by 1914 was no less hideous an experience than in 1939 . . . By 1918 all but one of my close friends were dead.” -J.R.R. Tolkien
Join our Reference Librarian, Kate, for a discussion on Tolkien's experience in World War I and it's influence on his masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings.
